What's the best brand for fake nails instead of going to the nail salon?

I hate my nails. They're weak and ugly and grow unevenly. I want fake nails, but I don't know what brand is the best. I don't want to spend a gazillion dollars on something that is destined not to work. Some help and tips would be great! :)
