How is having faith in God different than belief in a Myth?

gotta hit the history books for this one. my hypothesis though: originally we were all polytheists and used gods as ways to explain natural phenomena. as science developed, we developed the need for fewer and fewer gods because we started getting the rational answers for our questions supported by evidence until pretty much everyone was convinced about why X-phenomenum happens. now in modern society we only have the very big (and very tiny---quantum mechanics) questions to worry about. so people will continue to be overwhelmingly monotheistic until there is more hard evidence for every scientific explanation to every question one can formulate about the world (metaphysical and physical)
