Torts v litigaton?

Hey I'm not sure if this belongs here but I'm a first year law student and i'm wondering whats the difference between torts and litigation? If I were to work as a paralegal where it is necessary to have knowledge of litigation what text type would be informative to read up on, keeping in mind that I won't find litigation as a subject for 3 more years at uni?
